Andrew Blauvelt, M.D., M.B.A., Principal Investigator and President

While not all investigational treatments will be effective, I've witnessed lives being changed with access to new medications, which is very exciting.” Dr. Andrew Blauvelt is a board-certified dermatologist with a distinguished career ranging from leading basic scientific research at the National Institutes of Health to establishing and directing the Center of Excellence for Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis at Oregon Health & Science University. In addition to his overall clinical skills on the full range of dermatologic conditions, Dr. Blauvelt’s clinical and laboratory research expertise is in psoriasis, immunology, and infectious diseases. He has published more than 140 papers and spoken across the country and world on these topics. Dr. Blauvelt has also served as Principal Investigator on numerous psoriasis and other dermatological clinical trials, is a key scientific advisor for numerous pharmaceutical companies involved in developing new psoriasis therapies, was a longstanding member of the Medical Advisory Board of the National Psoriasis Foundation, and is an elected member of the International Psoriasis Council. Benjamin Ehst, M.D., Ph.D., Investigator
“Clinical research combines the two aspects of medicine that I fully enjoy – patient care and the process of discovery.” Dr. Benjamin Ehst is a board-certified dermatologist with a doctorate in immunology and microbiology. In addition to seeing study patients at Oregon Medical Research Center part-time, he also practices clinical dermatology at Baker Allergy, Asthma and Dermatology (503-636-9011) providing the full range of skin care, including medical and surgical procedures. Dr. Ehst earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and his medical and doctoral degrees at the University of Minnesota in a combined Medical Scientist Training Program. Residency training in Dermatology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and a period of work at the Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health studying the immune response to malaria, solidified his career choice to pursue both medical practice and clinical research. Robert Matheson, M.D., Investigator

Dr. Robert Matheson is a board-certified dermatologist with more than 35 years of clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, dermatologic surgery, and multiple cosmetic applications in dermatology. During 20 years of private practice, he also participated in numerous clinical trials. Dr. Matheson joined Oregon Medical Research in 1998 and since then has devoted his efforts exclusively to full-time clinical research in new drugs and devices in dermatology, acting as Principal or Sub-investigator in more than 350 clinical studies. Jean Avison, M.T., Medical Technologist, Clinical Research Coordinator
With more than 35 years of experience as a certified medical laboratory technician, Jean contributes consistency in the lab. With Oregon Medical Research since 2001, Jean also is an experienced Clinical Studies Coordinator. She received her Medical Laboratory Technologist certification in 1978, has a special certification from the Health and Human Services Department, a certification from the International Air Transport Association, and is CPR certified, as well.
Molly Blauvelt, Administrator/Marketing Director
Molly joined Oregon Medical Research in 2014 and brings more than 19 years of experience in healthcare marketing to our recruitment and outreach efforts. She helped lead the National Psoriasis Foundation's re-branding and outreach efforts during the early 2000's, when the first biologic therapies for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis were just being introduced to the dermatology community. The timing of her more than four years at the Psoriasis Foundation during the 'biologic revolution' provided a wonderful opportunity of increased activity and attention for both psoriasis patients and dermatology. In 2005 she transitioned to the Department of Dermatology at Oregon Health & Science University, expanding her marketing and communication efforts to include the full spectrum of dermatologic conditions and therapies.
Lisa J. Buechler, M.T., Medical Technologist
Lisa received her B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Technology in 1989 from South Dakota State University and brings the experience she has gained from more than 15 years in the health care environment. Lisa joined Oregon Medical Research in 2015 and supports our daily patient laboratory needs. Lisa has her International Air Transport Association (IATA) certification and is CPR certified.
Stephanie Ho, Lead Clinical Research Coordinator/Regulatory Associate
Stephanie brings nine years of biomedical and clinical research experience to OMRC, which started during her collegiate education at Willamette University. After receiving her degree in biology and chemistry, Stephanie continued developing her research experience, moving to clinical research in ophthalmology prior to joining OMRC in 2017. Stephanie is the lead clinical research coordinator and also supports our regulatory functions.
Marguerite Mesa, M.T., C.C.R.C., Medical Technologist and Biologist, Clinical Research Coordinator
Marguerite joined Oregon Medical Research in 1998 at its beginnings. She supervises the medical research lab, as well as providing research coordination and direct patient care. She received her Medical Laboratory Technologist certification in 1980 from the American Society of Clinical Pathology. She is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator and also has a certification from the International Air Transport Association.
Thien-Huong Therese Nguyen, R.N., C.C.R.C., Research Nurse, Clinical Research Coordinator
Therese is a registered nurse with more than 19 years medical experience. She joined Oregon Medical Research in 2001, providing direct patient care and research coordination. She is Advance Cardiac Life Support certified, is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator and is also Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certified. Therese is a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and the Dermatology Nurses Association.
Brenda Norton, Financial Manager, Clinical Research Coordinator
Brenda joined Oregon Medical Research in 2000 and provides study coordination for all conditions. As one of the center’s long-term employees, Brenda also provides financial and administrative support to Oregon Medical Research. Beyond her many years of experience within the company, Brenda brings a background medical office experience, including coding, billing and other bookkeeping knowledge. Brenda is CPR certified.
AnneMarie Parola, Clinical Research Assistant
AnneMarie received her Medical Assistant degree in 2001 and brings her extensive experience not only in healthcare, but specifically in dermatology, to OMRC. Her outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail provide the framework for her position of coordinating the day-to-day patient visits and assisting with coordination and patient care. She is CPR certified and also has her Basic Life Support certification.
Lisa Wilson, M.A., C.C.R.C., Regulatory Manager, Clinical Research Coordinator
Lisa has more than 10 years of experience at Oregon Medical Research supporting our regulatory guidance and management, in addition to coordinating research studies. Beyond her clinical experience at Oregon Medical Research, Lisa also brings a unique perspective gained from being a Clinical Research Associate in a European biopharmaceutical company and a project manager and research coordinator for the largest cancer center in Europe. Lisa is a Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Research Associate and a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.
Charlie Blauvelt, Clinical Research Assistant/Clinical Research Coordinator
Charlie received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Longwood University. With an interest in the medical field and more direct interaction with people, he is now using his previous experience and abilities gained from implementing new processes and systems to the medical field. Charlie joined OMRC in 2019 and supports patients through their scheduled visits, in addition to being a clinical research coordinator.
Sarah Comfort, Clinical Research Coordinator
Sarah received her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and minor in chemistry from Portland State University. She brings laboratory research and clinical research experience from Oregon Health & Science University and a private clinical research site. Sarah supports patients in the clinic with daily scheduled visits in addition to coordinating studies on all conditions. Sarah joined OMRC in 2018 and is CPR certified.
Julia Fuller, Clinical Research Assistant/Clinical Research Coordinator
Julia received her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science and Physical Activity from Portland State University. She enjoys working with people and brings experience from the health and fitness industry and the medical industry to OMRC. Julia joined OMRC in 2019 and supports patients through their scheduled visits, in addition to being a clinical research coordinator.
Francesca Moulton, Clinical Research Coordinator
Francesca received her Bachelors of Science degree in Health Sciences at Arizona State University. Francesca joined OMRC in 2019, bringing her clinical research experience from various specialties. As a clinical research coordinator, Francesca's organization and attention to detail, in addition to a knack for asking pertinent questions, makes her especially well suited to the position.
